Dirge In-Combat

A melee autoattack occurs when the primary or secondary weapon is swung. Dirge's melee autoattack becomes the biggest damage hit because autoattack damage grows at a much higher rate than any of the Dirge's abilities. Also, the Dirge's epic weapon buff is triggered by only melee damage and some combat arts** do melee damage as well. In context of the epic buff, bow attacks are considered as ranged damage and not melee damage.

Detrimental control effects (i.e, daze, stun, knockback, mezes, charms, etc) and in-combat player resurrections will delay melee autoattack, thus noticeably decreasing damage output for the Dirge. Delaying a melee autoattack even by .2s or .3s equates to a missed autoattack opportunity. Due to the impact of these autoatack delays, recuperate quickly to maintain the proper target so to resume autoattacking. An autoattack only delays, or pauses, until the melee autoattack has its chance to activate, or swing.

The Dirge can reduce some of the autoattack damage loss incurred from player resurrections by coordinating ranged autoattacks between resurrections. When a player dies, then instantly joust out only to 4 meters** or more to enable ranged autoattacks so that your next autoattack is a bow autoattack. If done correctly, then your next autoattack will have the bow's autoattack delay, that likely will be 3.6~6 seconds. Coordinate your resurrections between the bow's autoattack delay. If the ressurection target is more urgent such as tank or healer, then skip the bow autoattack coordination. Even if someone else has executed the ressurection, then still not as much damage would have been lost unlike if the player just rushed out to ressurect without any coordination.

When should a Dirge not be concerned with player resurrections? A Dirge takes approximately 3.5~5 seconds, or more depending on AA upgrades, to resurrect a player. Generally, a Dirge will output more damage in the 3~5 seconds then any priest; however, of course, there are exceptions to this generality. So, when the Dirge knows the priest is not stressed to cure, heal, and debuff, then the priest should be ressurecting players.

To play a Dirge well, the player must be quick with both movement, casting, and autoattack. If a movement detriment portals you or knocks you back, then instantly activate your bow autoattack, be prepared to cast your long range abilities, and hit your Sprint key to get back within melee autoattack range (5meters) before the autoattack restarts. The Dirge's movement must also be quick at changing targets, before the enemies death, so that their autoattack do not get delayed and so that you receive the most damage out of your damage over time, area affect, and area of affect abilities.

Coordinate the Dirge's abilities with autoattack to inflict maximum damage.
