Casting Routine

Do the best to remain astute to create proper cast pairings between autoattacks; maintain that focus or as I call it, human focus/response lag. Cast the spells or combat arts that best fill the window of time between an autoattack. The weapon delay creates this window and casting speed determines how it can be filled. If combat is becoming chaotic, then stop all casting and just autoattack so you can recollect your focus.

Beginner's Cast Order**

In the box below, start casting from the top of the list. Do not delay autoattack.

Just keep it very simple in the beginning so you can get into the groove of fighting within autoattack swings. Playing a Dirge well is about conforming to the rhythm. Changes to the haste modifier can make the rhythm quite volatile.

Generally, at fastest weapon swing of 2.4s, without high casting speed, a Dirge is only capable of casting 1 or 2 abilities between each autoattack.

When combat and coordination becomes chaotic, stop casting everything and keep your Dirge autoattacking while you take the time to recollect your focus.

Below is an opening casting routine is assuming 1~2 ability between each autoattack, 2.4s weapon delay, single target, encounter duration longer than 45 seconds, and the EDD damage priority. This is a very crude casting routing but will work for practice until you are ready to take into account of all other variables explained in the three damage priority's sections.

If the fight will be very short (~20 seconds), then I would cast Daro's Dull Blade after first autoattack, cast Rhythm Blade toward the end of the encounter, and skip casting Clara's Chaotic Cacophony, Tarven's, and Verlien's.

-autoattack-
Cacophony of Blades
Clara's Chaotic Cacophony

-autoattack-
Rhythm Blade
Sinister Strike (if unavailable, then Lucky Break + Tarven's Cippling Crescendo Macro)

-autoattack-
Shroud
Scream of Death

Lucky Break + Verlien's Keen of Despiar Macro
Wail of the Banshee

-autoattack-
Ludas Nefarious Wail
Darksong Blade

-autoattack-
Evasive Maneuvers
Daro's Dull Blade

-autoattack-
Bump
Misfortune Kiss

-autoattack-
Howl of Death
Thuri's Doleful Thrust

-autoattack-
Turnstrike
Lucky Break + Tarven's Crippling Crescendo Macro

-autoattack-
Jarol's Sorrowful Requiem

-autoattack-
Zander's Choral Rebuff
Lanet's Excrucriating Scream

Since Dirge's casting routine is confined to the autoattack window, the approach to a casting routine is tremendously different when compared to a mage archtype character.

With unaffected movement speed of mobs, a mob takes about ~3.5s from an extended bow range. The distance from which a bow attack can be activated, without delaying melee autoattack, depends on your haste modifier, bow's range, and bow's base delay. Use the /weaponstat command to know your bow's weapon delay. Ultimately, the best approach is to test this out your self on trash mobs so you know exactly when it is ok to use a ranged autoattack that will not delay the intial melee autoattack upon combat pull. In the context of the Dirge's epic buff, a ranged autoattack is not as effective as their melee autoattack.

Rush the mob to instantly land an autoattack. This tactic will sometime steal mob aggro so have your dehates, Evasive Maneuvers or Evade, ready to toss out. Sooner you can run into the fight tossing out autoattack damage then the better damage output.
